I tell every customer that and send them off with their candle and a “candle care card” with proper burning instructions. Wooden wicks may light up differently and it can sometimes be difficult to burn them if you’re not used to it. Sometimes the candle burns hot and too fast, resulting in a wax pool that can extinguish the flame. Once lit, it is very important that you let your candle burn until the melted wax reaches the edges of the jar.
Keep your wood wick roughly trimmed for optimal combustion and remove burnt wood from previous use.
How to repair a candle that does not stay lit?
If the candle is in your kitchen, bathroom, or outdoors where the wick may be exposed to moisture, it may have attracted moisture, causing the wick to not burn properly. Sometimes the tunnel can get too deep for the wick to “breathe,” and the candle may have trouble staying lit. If your candle is tunneling, you can repair it by scraping off all the excess wax on the candle’s surface, lighting it, and letting it burn until the wax has melted over the entire surface of the candle. The best way to ensure that a wick never gets too short is to burn the candle long enough to form an even pool of melted wax (but no longer than four hours).
But what if your candle just doesn’t stay lit? Here are some tips on how to care for your candles and keep your candle burning and burning happily for hours.
Should you trim WOODWICK candles?
At The Wood Gifts, you can purchase a wide range of WOODWICK candles to enhance the atmosphere in your home. After you’ve done this ritual, and the next time you shorten your wick, you’ll find it’s less brittle, making it easier to try to break off too much. Once you’ve trimmed it, it can be relit and you’ll start your next fire with a fresh wick. Here’s a tutorial I found on You Tube that shows exactly how to cut the wick to avoid overburning the wick.
Wood is wood and once it’s burned, when you try to light it back on fire, it emits smoke and soot that you don’t want.
How long should you burn a WOODWICK candle?
It’s important to burn your candle so long that the melted wax reaches down to the sides of the glass. If you notice that the flame is getting too big or too short, it may be time to extinguish the candle and wait for it to cool down so you can cut the wick off. As with any soy candle, you want to make sure that every fire creates a melt pool that goes all the way to the edge of the candle. Sometimes you may notice air bubbles in your WOODWICK candles between the sides of the glass jar and the wax.
